Education
Coming from the canton of Solothurn, Urs Portmann obtained his law degree (summa cum laude) at the Law School of Lausanne University where he afterwards worked as an assistant to Professor François Dessemontet at the institute for commercial law (CEDIDAC).
Experience
Having work-experience with law firms in Zurich and Lausanne, Urs Portmann has been a member of the Swiss and Vaud Bar Associations since March 2010.
Fields of activities
His field of activities are mainly contract law, specifically employment law, contracts in the finance sector, distribution and license law, intellectual property law (patents, designs, trademarks, copyright law), commercial law and debt enforcement proceedings.
Services
Urs Portmann advises individuals and Swiss and foreign companies mainly active in the watch, aviation, medical technology and food industry. He counsels start-up companies and investors advising his clients in English, French, German and Spanish and defends their interests in Courts in the German and French speaking parts of Switzerland. He has a broad network allowing him to provide his services on an international level.
Various
Urs Portmann is the author of various publications in international private law, in contract law and in intellectual property law. He lectures at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property. He is a member of the Unilex editorial board for international commercial law and member of the Committee for the Jean-Pictet Competition in International Humanitarian Law.
